A bit about me
Hi, I'm Rebecca!
I began my pottery journey in my high school years where it simmered as a well loved hobby. When I was in grade school through college I was focused on the sciences. I loved science, experimentation, research, and the unending pursuit of knowledge. Despite my passion for these things, I was faced with a disability that seemed to take it all away. I was unsuccessful in college, where I loved and studied neuroscience, but due to my struggles with Bipolar Disorder I found that I could not reach my goals. As driven as I was, it was equally painful to feel like I had to give up on my dreams. In times of pain I turned back to pottery. It was familiar and comforting and gave me something to lean on. I felt like it was silly to consider that I could become a professional potter. There was no way I could be good enough, but I did it anyway because I loved it. When I bought my first house the number one thing on my mind was: home pottery studio. I got mine up and going and started selling my work. Soon after I had the opportunity to teach pottery classes. Since, teaching has been my other passion. I adore sharing how wonderful pottery can be with others.
Though everything is turning out so differently than I could imagine, I have realized it is not that different after all. Now having been a potter since 2012, I still experiment, research, and pursue knowledge of the vast world of ceramics, and I do a little science too with things like studying glaze chemistry. That is why I have named this thing here as the Palacio Pottery Lab. To me, this Lab is a place where experimentation lives and knowledge never ends.
When I was growing up I told my dad that one day I would be wearing a lab coat to work. My apron is even better.

Today, I love tea, coffee, and my cat Pepper and awesome husband Alex. I love making lots of things but a hot beverage made with handmade pottery is hard to beat.

Thanks for reading,
Rebecca
